 Castagni d'Oro means golden chestnut trees, reflecting the hillsides in Autumn covered in leaves in beautiful golds and yellows. Built around 1670 in traditional Tuscan design with thick stone walls, huge chestnut beams and floors of terracotta tiles. It has never been ruined, re-built, restored or modernised, just lived in by 9 or 10 generations and improved only when necessary, so retaining most of the original features!
Built on top of hills to make life more comfortable throughout the year, these Medieval villages catch cooling breezes in summer and sit high above the bad weather in winter. The breathtaking views are just a happy bonus!
Traditional green shutters keep the sun out and let the breeze in, making the rooms cool and comfortable when the summer heat is on, so you should always be able to get a good night's sleep in the hills, unlike lower down in the hot and humid valley bottoms.
 The house appears much as it did in centuries past, apart from the requirements of modern living, including central heating and of course electricity! Recent renovations have provided en-suite bathrooms, and a large, double-sided, wood-burning fireplace making the house warm and cosy for winter breaks!
BEDROOMS: We offer two bright and spacious double / twin bedrooms, simply decorated and comfortably furnished, complete with en-suite bathrooms with shower, quality towels, complimentary toiletries and hair dryers. Firm mattresses and quality British bedlinen ensure a sound night's sleep.
We have two extra folding single beds and a cot, free for the under-10s, and a little extra for 11-16s and adults. Please ask for prices for using both rooms, extra beds, no breakfasts, etc.,
ENGLISH TV and radio (anche ITALIANO) are available in both rooms, and a hospitality tray with tea and coffee-making facilities and biscuits. Guests are welcome to join us in the sitting room if they like.
FREE WI-FI is available throughout the house and outside on the terrace.
OUTSIDE: There is a sunny terrace with table, chairs and parasol and a flat lawned garden with spectacular views over the valleys to the mountains, ideal for sunbathing. Watch the eagles soar in the blue skies above and in the evening, chill out with a glass of wine, listening to the crickets sing in the background.
 MEALS : simple evening meals with wine and coffee only €18 each, but we do need a day's warning, please. Packed lunches are available.
PARKING: Private driveway. Secure garage under the house for motorbike parking, storage of bikes, skis, car roof-boxes.
CHILDREN: A cot, 2 high chairs and 2 single beds available.
SMOKING: OUTSIDE ONLY, It is now illegal to smoke in public places, including guesthouses, (and anyway, the fire alarm may operate)
