The Guest House

We called the house Castagni d'Oro, meaning golden chestnut trees, because when we saw the house for the first time, the hillside were covered in autumn leaves in beautiful golds and yellows. The house was built around 1650-70, around the time of the English Civil War, in traditional Tuscan design with thick stone walls, huge chestnut beams and floors of terracotta tiles. It has never been ruined, re-built, restored or modernised, just lived in by 9 generations and so most of these features are the originals.

These Medieval villages were built on tops of hills to make life more comfortable throughout the year, catching cooling breezes in summer and sitting high above the bad weather in winter. Traditional green shutters keep the sun out and let the breeze in, making the rooms cool and comfortable when the summer heat is on.                                                               You should always be able to get a good night's sleep in the hills, unlike down in the hot and humid valley floor!                   -----The breathtaking views are just a happy bonus!

The house still appears much as it did in centuries past, apart from the requirements of modern living, such as central heating, double-glazing, and of course electricity! Recent renovations have provided en-suite bathrooms, and a large, central wood-burning fireplace which makes the house warm and cosy for those winter breaks!

Our new B&B accommodation in Bagni di Lucca offers two spacious double / twin bedrooms, comfortably furnished and complete with en-suite bathrooms with shower, luxury towels, complimentary toiletries and hair dryers.

Both rooms can have one or two extra single beds with an extra charge of €25 for adults, €15 for 11 - 16 year olds and free for the under-10s, all including breakfasts.

Both rooms have true British satellite TV and radio, tea and coffee-making facilities, biscuits and quality bedlinen. Guests can also use the sitting room with log fire that is lit all winter. And the views from the windows are pretty special, too!

Outside, there is a sunny terrace with table, chairs and parasol and the flat level garden has spectacular views over the valleys to the mountains and is ideal for sunbathing in the day watching the eagles soar in the blue skies above. In the evening you can chill out with a glass of wine, with fireflies lighting up the gardens and crickets providing the background music

PARKING: Castagni d'Oro has its own private driveway for parking up to three cars and a secure, locked garage in the cantina under the house with ample space for storage of bikes, motorbikes, skis and sports equipment, car top boxes and trailers.

Please ask about facilities for young children. We have a cot, high chair and two single beds available, and remember that children under 10 go free.

Please note that due to government regulations, and the fire alarm, smoking is only permitted outside.
